The main objective of this work is to develop the information required to formulate a follow-on project that would be of benefit the poorest fishing communities in particular in the country through sustainable development and management of inland aquatic and coastal resources. This would be done under that operation through the implementation of pilot demonstrations that would include alternative income generation activities such as (a) aquaculture, handicrafts, and other options that would be identified during the seed-grant phase; (b) provision of training for management, environmental monitoring and productive activities; and (c) strengthening of local institutions and community groups in cooperative decision making for sustainable resource use.
