Abstract

During the ASEAN-SEAFDEC Conference on Sustainable Fisheries for Food Security in the New Millennium “Fish for the People” in November 2001, the ASEAN and SEAFDEC Member Countries conformed to “acknowledge the need for enhanced human resource capabilities at all levels and encourage gender involvement by stakeholders to facilitate consensus and compliance in achieving sustainable fisheries”. Such need had been formalized as part of the Resolution on Sustainable Fisheries for Food Security in the ASEAN Region, which the Ministers of the ASEANSEAFDEC Member Countries who are responsible for fisheries adopted on the occasion of the said 2001 ASEANSEAFDEC Conference.
