Abstract

In 1983, the Government of Malaysia directed the Department of Fisheries to take over the responsibility for establishing and managing marine parks in Malaysia. The DOF immediately took up research to identify coral reef areas all over peninsular Malaysia, with the intention of declaring them as marine parks.
