Abstract

The establishment of the Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center (SEAFDEC) in 1967 was primarily gauged on the vital need to promote fisheries development in order to increase food supply and improve nutritional standards by increasing the supply of animal (fish) protein in the Southeast Asian region. Five Technical Departments have since then been set up in five SEAFDEC Member Countries with corresponding roles and responsibilities in pursuing such target.
