Abstract

Of the 200 fisheries monitored by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization’s (UN/FAO) Fisheries Department, a third has been overfished or depleted, mostly in the developed countries. This alarming situation is not entirely different in the developing countries where there are generally no restrictions on the number of fishing boats/fishermen entering the fisheries.
