Abstract

The terrorist activities in the US on 11 September 2001 and the continuing drama of the ‘boat people’ off the Australian coast subsumed the public interest in the initial incident of the M/V Tampa rescuing some 433 asylum seekers and four or five crew from near Christmas Island on 26 August 2001.
