Abstract

Mini trawl operation started in Kerala during 1987, is another post motorization innovation like the ring seine by the additional fisheries. Mini trawl net is a seasonal wear mainly operated by the dugout boats as well as plank builts. They are nylon nets with two other boards attached to them. Mini vala, boardum vala, Valikkana Vala and pothen vala are some of the Vernacular names of the gear. Mini trawl is mainly intended to harvest the prawns available in Shallow waters.
