Abstract

Australia currently leads the world in the design and construction of high-speed passenger ferries. This is as a result of a group of far-thinking Australian naval architects in the 1980s who developed a simple concept – the aluminium catamaran – which proved to be better than the alternative concepts developed overseas at that time.
