Abstract

Establishing marine and coastal resources development as a new sector of national development planning is an attempt to promote the marine sector in a coordinated and integrated way. This article provides backgroundon the economic importance of marine and coastal resources in Indonesia, examines the organisation of national marine and coastal management and institutions, describes the planning system, reviews major components of marine and coastal development planning and problems in its implementation.
