Abstract

The ‘People and the Sea III’ conference, the third edition of this bi-annual international maritime gathering was held in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, from 7 to 9 July 2005. The conference, organised by the Center for Maritime Research (MARE), University of Amsterdam had as its theme ‘New Directions in Coastal and Maritime Studies’ and attracted around 140 participants and speakers mainly from northern European nations.
