Malaysia’s maritime geography is a distinguishing characteristic. Its maritime area is twice that of its land area. Peninsular Malaysia is at the juncture of the world’s most critical sea lanes of communication and trade running through the Strait of Malacca, the South China Sea and the Sulu Sea.
