Abstract

The ocean, the new frontier, has three dimensions. People tend only to notice its planar extent, but it is time to start paying attention to what lies beneath the surface. That is especially true of the exclusive economic zones defined in the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea: these will need to be viewed in spatial terms if they are to be successfully exploited and their ecology protected.
