Abstract

When listening to John Kurien’s keynote address at the mare Conference, his thoughtful, sometimes passionate, words elicited a number of mixed thoughts in my mind. Some elements of his historical perspective provide useful guidance for addressing serious gaps in the way conventional fisheries science and economics have concerned themselves with the issues of sustainable futures for the people and the sea.
