The participation of indigenous peoples is considered an important feature of any internationally funded scheme to protect forests. Latin American forests are home to some 40 million indigenous people. Bolivia and Ecuador are positioning themselves as defenders of indigenous rights and environmental protection. Bolivia’s model of involving indigenous communities looks more promising.
