Abstract

On World Ocean Day (8 June), we celebrate the lives and livelihoods of small-scale fishing communities around the world. Zoraida Bonilla Martínez, a fisherwoman on the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica, says that she carries fishing in her blood. She also has plenty of music in it. Spending six hours each day in the water, she does everything from fly fishing to rope fishing and rapala fishing, harvesting a range of marine and freshwater species in the Cahuita National Park in Limon.
