Abstract

On World Ocean Day (8 June), we celebrate the lives and livelihoods of small-scale fishing communities around the world. Mayuree Thammachat, from the Mairoot tambon in Thailand's Trat province, talks about the huge role that women play in small-scale fisheries. They are primarily engaged in fish marketing and the procurement of bait and other preparations for fishing trips. But, sometimes they also go fishing with the men. "Women need to think a lot," says Mayuree, explaining the planning it took to process and deliver seafood innovatively during the COVID-19 pandemic in Thailand.
