The giant tiger shrimp industry was once dubbed as the sunshine industry. The market demand in the Philippines in the ‘80s was very high, growing at 2.5% per year, and was expected to last until the 21st century. But this demand started declining in the ‘90s and was attributed to disease outbreaks due to poor water quality brought about by the shrimp disease outbreaks. And by 1997, the outline of a working technology emerged. Oplan SagipSugpo began testing it in private farms in Negros Occidental and at AQD’s brackishwater station north of Iloilo City. AQD’s Dumangas Brackishwater Station (DBS) DBS is a 16 hectare pond complex situated at Bgy.
