Abstract
Abalone is a type of conch belonging to the family Haliotidae of the class Gastropoda. It inhabits rocky reef areas of coasts facing the outer sea. It feeds mainly on seaweeds, and has a demonstrated limited mobility. There are about 100 species of abalone around the world, but the bigger species that are useful for commercial fishery are found in the temperate zone. Cold water and tropical zone species tend to be small in body size and is distributed in small numbers (Fishery Journal 1992).
