Like most industries, the milkfish industry in the Philippines started in small, divided groups, some merely into collecting wild fry, others grew them in ponds, and still others deboned and smoked some pieces for a few selected customers. These have greatly changed. Today, the milkfish industry has progressed into the assembly line type of production where breeding, hatchery, grow-out, and post-harvest processes are done under one roof, (hanks to advances in technologies generated from research and the infusion of the Taiwanese intensive method of culture.
