Abstract

Yellowtail is one of the m ost popular fishes in Japan and its culture is one of the earliest forms of m arine enclosure fish farming in the world. The floating net cage industry in this co u n try d evelo p ed in 1960 (Beveridge 1987). Fry are reared in small to large (2-50 m2) synthetic net cages. R egular sizegrading are done until the fry are transferred to grow -out cages at size 5-10cm (8-50g). Cage culture of yellow tail may either be floating or subm ersible with few fixed cages used in shallow water.
