Abstract

In recent years, a start has been made by individual countries in harnessing efforts to implement their commitment to eradicate forced and bonded labour, slavery, and trafficking in persons. The ILO has also been addressing the issue of traditional and contemporary forms of forced labour and, in November 2001, the ILO’s Governing Body created a Special Action Programme to Combat Forced Labour (SAP-FL) as part of the promotional activity under the ILO Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work and its Follow-up (ILO, 2001a).
