Abstract

An increasing percentage of the world’s population live in areas not far from the sea. Anthropologists and geographers from both systematic and physical disciplines are acutely aware of the generally downward spiral of deleterious consequences for the ecology of coastal regions and particularly for the people who inhabit them.
