Australia is a coastal nation. The coast holds great cultural values, particularly for indigenous Australians, and nationally defining values for the 86 per cent of Australians who live in cities and the ribbon of coastal communities strung along the coast whose lifestyles often centre around recreational activities to do with the coast.
