Abstract

Global efforts to develop a precautionary approach to fisheries (PAF) issues are reviewed. Progress in implementing PAF is highlighted, as is the performance of three regional fisheries management organisations (RFMOs) in implementing risk-focused precautionary management. A contemporaneous, and personal, assessment of current best PAF practice is provided.
