Abstract

The legal fram ew ork of delegating to the local governm ent units (LG U s) jurisdiction over m unicipal w aters is provided for in R epublic A ct 8550 (Philippine Fisheries C ode of 1998) and the R epublic Act 7160 (Local G overnm ent C ode of 1991). The LG U s, in consultation with the Fisheries and A quatic R esources M anagem ent C ouncils (FA RM Cs), shall be responsible for the m anagem ent, conservation, developm ent, protection, utilization, and disposition of all fish and fishery/aquatic resources w ithin their respective m unicipal waters.
