Abstract

In May and June of 2002, in response to a request from the Fisheries Department in Fiji Islands, Community Fisheries Adviser Ueta Fa’asili carried out an assessment which resulted in the recommendation for a national community-based fisheries management plan for Fiji. Fiji Islands, a country with a wealth of marine resources, has an enormous scope for fisheries development, but also many factors which could affect the long-term sustainability of these resources.
