Abstract

‘Still a good FAD, mate!’ That was the title of an e-mail message that surprised Fisheries Development Officer, Steve Beverly, sent by Tim Park, Fisheries Research Analyst at Micronesian Maritime Authority in Pohnpei, Federated States of Micronesia. Tim was referring to an FAD that had been deployed by SPC in October 2000 at Palikir Passage. The FAD consisted of a single orange plastic buoy and a mooring made up of 3-strand nylon and polypropylene ropes. It was deployed on 24 October 2000 from the tugboat, M/V Lien Dekehtik, in 1200 metres of water.
