Abstract
A series of new resource materials has been produced as a follow-up to recommendations made at the 6th meeting of the Association of Pacific Island Maritime Training Institutions and Maritime Authorities (APIMTIMA) in March 2001. The materials developed by the section are intended to promote the use of Safety Management Systems (SMS) by fishing companies in the region. SMS is an active and documented process aimed at reducing the risk of accidents for the crew, the ship and the environment.
