Abstract

In May last year I visited Padang, the city in this beautiful Sumatra island, to participate in the Southeast and East Asia Regional Meeting of Via Campesina. It has already been 10 months since that meeting. Who could possibly have imagined that such a tragedy as that of 26 December would happen? Please accept my sincere condolences for the people who lost their precious lives, the people who are still missing, and the people who lost their loved ones as a result of this huge earthquake and tsunami.
