Abstract

Zimbabwe has one of the highest rates of HIV infection in the world, with over 26% of the sexually active population living with HIV, one of the main causes of the epidemic being poverty. In 1995, at the request of some 40 farmers who could not afford pesticides, the very first organic cotton project in Zimbabwe was started in the Lower Guruve area of the Zambezi Valley.
