WHAT USE DO LOCAL PEOPLE IN MALI, NEPAL, OR ITALY HAVE FOR research on common-pool resources (CPR)? To put it another way, under what circumstances can the practical and the theoretical world of property studies meet? This question is relevant for all types of empirical research. Throughout the existence of the International Association for the Study of Common Property (IASCP), its annual conferences have attracted researchers as well as practitioners. The idea is that the two worlds they represent will be cross-fertilized. Supposedly this is done by enhancing applied research, and by stimulating exchange of practical experiences and more formal academic products.
