This report attempts to set out a compelling argument for including ecosystem-based approaches as a third and essential pillar in national strategies to address climate change. Many of the case studies presented in boxes derive from lessons learned and best practice in Bank projects. Natural ecosystems can contribute to strategies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and can complement infrastructure investments to reduce vulnerability to climate change.
