This paper highlights the contributions of the fisherwomen in every aspect of post-harvest handling, preservation, processing and marketing of seafood products, thus providing an integral link between producers and consumers. Increased competition, declining resources and difficult working conditions make their work challenging. The assessment of the socioeconomic status indicate that very few households maintain livestock for income generation. Affording comprehensive care for these women by way of education, nutrition, health, sanitation, child care, training on current technologies and best practice techniques, would be the correct principle and a practical necessity.
