Abstract
For the 21st year running, the Collectif Pêche & Développement celebratedWorld Fisheries Day (November 21, 1997) at a symposium organized with UBS university and student participants on the theme ‘Recognizing fishers’ knowledge’. There is a trend towards the marginalization of fishermen, as highlighted in a statement to the European Commissioner for the Oceans: “Fisheries...is absent from the European Commission’s strategy to ensure the growth of the blue economy”… and “sustainable fisheries and fishing communities are likely to be the losers.”
