Abstract

The ‘Satoyama Initiative’ was adopted by the 10th meeting of the Conference of Parties (COP10) of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) in October 2010 at Nagoya, Japan. As reported in SAMUDRA Report No. 57, November 2010, the COP10 specifically recognizes “the Satoyama Initiative as a potentially useful tool to better understand and support humaninfluenced natural environments for the benefit of biodiversity and human well-being”.
