Abstract

The document is a report on the Celebration of World Fisheries Day/IYAFA-2022 and Follow-up Consultative Workshop in Africa, held in November 2022 in Kwale and Mombasa Counties, Kenya. The events aimed to promote artisanal and small-scale fisheries in Africa and were attended by various stakeholders, including government officials, non-state actors, and representatives from regional and international organizations. The report provides an overview of the events, including presentations on the Small-Scale Fisheries Guidelines and the role of different organizations in supporting small-scale fisheries. The report also highlights the five Call-to-Action Points on artisanal and small-scale fisheries, which were promoted during the consultative workshop. These points include securing preferential access and co-management of coastal areas, supporting the participation of women, protecting small-scale fisheries from competing blue economy sectors, being transparent and accountable in fisheries management, and building resilient communities to face climate change and offer prospects to youth.
