The United Republic of Tanzania has prepared a National Plan of action (NPoA) to ensure the effective implementation of the FAO Voluntary Guidelines for Securing Sustainable Small-Scale Fisheries in the Context of Food Security and Poverty Eradication (SSF Guidelines). The small-scale fisheries (SSF) subsector is relevant for food fish supply, employment, and income generation in the country. The SSF Guidelines resonate the overall national fisheries policy objective; to develop a robust, competitive and efficient fisheries sector that contributes to food security and nutrition, growth of the national economy, and improvement of the wellbeing of fisheries stakeholders while conserving environment. These issues were digested thoroughly, through comprehensive stakeholders’ consultation process which was coordinated by the National Task Team (NTT) for implementation of the SSF Guidelines. The customised version was validated and has been articulated into this NPoA document.
