Abstract
In August 2013 Costa Rica joined a select group of countries in Latin America that have instituted trawl bans. This was in response to a lawsuit filed by six environmental organizations—Asociación Programa Restauración de Tortugas Marinas (PRETOMA), Federación Costarricense de Pesca Turística (FECOPT), Fundación Marviva, Fundación Promar, Internacional Students Volunteers Inc. (ISV) and The Leatherback Trust (TLT)—against several articles of Costa Rica’s 2005 Fisheries and Aquaculture Law.
