Abstract
Small-scale fisheries are not so small after all. In a remote, rural, locally managed marine area along the southwest coast of Madagascar, we find that small-scale fisheries and their host ecosystems are crucial to supporting the welfare and livelihoods of over 6,000 coastal inhabitants. Nearly everyone fishes, earns their livelihood from fishing, and subsists on seafood.
