Full text not available from this repository. (Request a copy)Abstract
Indigenous populations from almost all the Amazon basins, as well as riparian communities and civil society organisations present their perspectives for the management of aquatic natural resources in ways that considers the need to conserve the environment for future generations. In the reported experiences, it is possible to know actions related to territorial surveillance, zoning of lakes, sustainable management of ‘Arapaima gigas’ fish (Pirarucu), sport fishing, among others. In addition to the video about the event, which has versions in Portuguese and English (see below), longer individual interviews with participants will be published. The seminar is also producing a report on the reality of indigenous peoples and the conflicts and demands related to their fisheries, to be submitted to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO). The Seminar and publications are co-produced by the International Collective in Support to Fishworkers (ICSF / FAO) and the Operación Amazônia Nativa (OPAN), with the support of the Socioenvironmental Institute (ISA), the National Indian Foundation (Funai) and Sea Memories Collective network. The video was prepared by the producers Arica and Comunave.cc.
