Abstract
The south Indian State of Kerala has about 38,828 sq km of land and 13,000 sq km of sea (up to 22 km) under its jurisdiction. As early as two centuries ago, studies have been done on the specific characteristics of this area and the natural resources in it. Although minute details are available of the types of land in Kerala, that is not the case with the sea. There are many difficulties involved in doing a detailed study of the sea.
