Abstract

The increasing demand in the international market has resulted in over-harvesting of seahorse resources in many parts of the world. In India, all species of seahorses are listed under the Schedule I, Part II-A (Fishes) of the Indian Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972. The moratorium which bans collection and trade of seahorses came into force with effect from July 2001. This book is aimed at proposing a paradigm shift in approach for effective conservation and longterm sustainability of seahorse resources in India.
