Abstract

The book is organized into three main parts in order to capture key thematic areas addressed in the chapters. The book opens with Part 1, focusing on ways of defining small-scale fisheries, given the diversity and complexity of the fishing practices, and the realities of their existence across various water bodies. Their multifaceted characteristics are illustrated in several chapters, underlying both their importance (Part 1) and the challenges they face (Part 2). Part 3 depicts the governance of small-scale fisheries and outlines the responses to challenges.
