Abstract

Not everything that counts can be counted and not everything that can be counted counts” is a famous quote sometimes attributed to Albert Einstein and sometimes said to originate with the sociologist, William Bruce Cameron. Conservation International (CI), the nonprofit environmental organization, has, in its document titled Ocean Health Index (available at www.conservation.org or www. oceanhealthindex.org), spent a lot of time and resources to try and disprove the sentiment behind this quote.
