Abstract

The Regional Inception Meeting for the Bay of Bengal Large Marine Ecosystem Project Phase II (BOBLME II) was held in Bangkok from 12 to 13 December 2023. The collaborative efforts of the IUCN, FAORAP, SEAFDEC, and BOBP-IGO were instrumental in organizing and facilitating this meeting. A total of 48 participants attended the meeting, with 41 participating in person and seven joining online. The diverse group included 19 country delegates from the 7 project participating countries (Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Maldives, Sri Lanka, and Thailand), and 29 participants from various organizations, including executing agencies (with country representatives), implementing agency, observers, and donors (Norad) This gathering brought together essential stakeholders, such as PSC members, focal points, and country coordinators. Government representatives, non-governmental organizations, intergovernmental organizations, and key stakeholders convened to deliberate on the agenda items. The Regional Inception Meeting commenced with an overview of the BOBLME II project, encompassing its history, status, and institutional arrangements. Stakeholders actively engaged in discussions on executing agency visions, year one roadmaps, and proposed implementation approaches. The subsequent sessions involved country-specific visions and remarks, stakeholder engagement strategies, and project monitoring, evaluation, and learning. The Regional Inception Meeting concluded with a summary of recommendations, setting the way for the First Project Steering Committee (PSC) Meeting on 14 December 2023. This document provides the essence of these meetings, offering stakeholders valuable insights into the deliberations and decisions shaping the trajectory of the BOBLME II project.
