Professional fishing and shellfish activity in Galicia are important socioeconomic sectors for the development of coastal communities. However, evidence about the negative impacts of climate change on these marine resources is growing. In June 2022, through the PescaconCiencia project, a participatory forum was held in the International Year of Artisanal Fisheries held by the FAO with the aim of understanding, discussing and presenting a diagnosis of the necessary measures needed to mitigate climate change. The main lines of action that emerged from the Forum included a) improving the knowledge and management of the ecological impacts of and risks to fishing resources, b) increasing the value added to existing products and accessing new markets, c) facilitating and promoting open access to information and preventing risks derived from climate change, and d) promoting the conditions for the implementation of fishing co-management systems.
