Abstract

The Report of the Consultation reviews the decisions taken by COFI and the interest of IMO in the establishment of a standardised system for the marking of fishing gear, which lead up to the Consultation. The various advantages of having a standard system are highlighted and the requirements that such a system should meet are listed. Comments and suggestions with regard to the lights and shapes to be displayed by fishing vessels are directed to IMO for their consideration. The Report concludes that a standardised system for the marking of fishing gear is both desirable and feasible.
