Abstract

The fishery sector plays multiple roles in the economies of the West and Central African countries. These contributions are important for achieving food security and poverty reduction, the two essential elements of the Mellenium Development Goals(MDGs). It is therefore vital that the actual and potential contribution of fisheries to national economies be integrated into these poverty reduction strategies.
