Abstract
In 2005, European fisherwomen established AKTEA, a European network of women’s organizations engaged in the fishing sector. AKTEA has representative organizations from 11 European members states. AKTEA has the following main objectives: to recognize women’s contribution in fisheries and aquaculture; to integrate women in decision making related to fisheries and aquaculture; and to promote fisheries and aquaculture communities.
