This book demonstrates that biodiversity is being lost at all levels using current trends. For example, deforestation is mainly through conversion of forests to agricultural land and continues at an alarming rate; coastal and marine ecosystems have been heavily impacted by human activities, with degradation leading to a reduced coverage of kelp, seagrasses and corals; mangroves have been lost; a consistence decline in average species decline-inland water species declined by 50 per cent and terrestrial species by 30 per cent; many bird species are threatened with extinction.
